The coworking space in Medellin with the screaming parrot
I was in El Poblado for 6 weeks and picked this popular spot near Parque Lleras because the photos looked great. Every single afternoon around 2 PM this parrot they keep by the kitchen would start screeching for like 40 minutes straight. I thought I could just put on headphones, but it cut through noise cancelling and even my podcast. I ended up moving to a quieter cafe up the hill and got twice as much work done. Has anyone else hit an unexpected noise problem in a coworking space that made you bail?

Figured out the hard way that noise cancelling headphones are useless against certain pitches. Parrots are basically nature's alarm clocks that refuse to be silenced. I had a similar thing at a spot in Austin where the owner kept a cockatiel near the main desk and it would mimic the coffee grinder sounds. Ended up working from my car for a week until I found a library with private rooms. Now I always ask about pets or weird ambient stuff before I book any space.
