TIL my internet speed in Bali went from 2 Mbps to 50 Mbps in two years

When I first got to Canggu in 2021, I could barely load a Google Doc. I had to do all my calls from a specific coworking spot. Now, my villa's regular connection handles video calls fine. I think it's because so many nomads moved here and demanded better infrastructure. Do you think this kind of upgrade is happening in other nomad hotspots, or is Bali a special case?

You mentioned the nomads demanding better infrastructure, but honestly, I saw the upgrades start happening way before the big nomad rush (like, back when the local cafes were getting fiber for their own businesses). I think it was more about local telecom competition and government plans.

Exactly, the timeline matters! I watched my town get fiber because the city council had a five-year plan to attract new businesses. The cafes were early adopters because they got tax breaks for upgrading. The digital nomads showed up after the fact, drawn by the better internet that was already in place.
