Tried working from a beach in Tulum for a week, my laptop fan is now full of sand.

I thought the trade-off for the view was worth it, but the repair bill was $200. Anyone have a good method for keeping gear clean in dusty or sandy spots?

Actually found that a dry bag isn't overkill at all, it's the only thing that really works for me. I use a cheap 5 liter roll-top one just for my laptop and it keeps everything out. The key is wiping your hands clean before you open it.

That $200 repair is a tough lesson. What kind of laptop bag or case were you using at the beach? A regular backpack lets in so much fine dust, but a fully sealed dry bag seems like overkill. There's probably a middle ground.
