Two weeks in Chiang Mai, my backup drive failed. Cloud or local, which side are you on?

I've been bouncing between coworking spots here in Chiang Mai and my 2TB external just died on me last Tuesday. Lost about a week of client files because I only backed up locally, then my cloud storage subscription lapsed. I re-uploaded everything to Google Drive now, but I'm torn between paying for extra cloud space or just carrying two drives. Has anyone else had a hard drive fail mid-trip and what did you switch to?

Feeling your pain on this one, man. Losing client files mid-trip is a gut punch, especially when you're living out of a backpack and trying to stay professional. I've been there with a dead laptop hard drive in a hostel in Bali, and it totally wrecked my week. I ended up going full cloud after that, just because I couldn't trust a single piece of hardware to survive the chaos of travel. Now I use a mix where I upload to Google Drive every night before bed, and I keep a small 500GB portable SSD as a second copy for the really important stuff. It's a bit of a hassle, but losing a week of work again just isn't worth the risk. lol glad you got your stuff back up at least.
