Digital accessibility overlays vs actual accessible design, night and day difference

Last month my nonprofit had to choose between spending $2000 on one of those accessibility overlay tools or putting that money into actually fixing our website code. We tried the overlay for 2 weeks after a board member pushed for it. What a mess. Screen readers got confused, the pop-ups blocked navigation, and one of our blind testers in Austin said it actually made things worse. We ditched it and hired a local developer to fix the HTML and add proper alt text instead. The difference is huge. The overlay just masked problems, the code fix actually works. Has anyone else had to argue against these quick fix tools?

People ALWAYS reach for the fancy band-aid instead of just fixing the damn problem underneath.

yeah totally, @rayc89. i used to just stack on more painkillers for my migraines instead of figuring out my sleep schedule was the real issue. once i actually fixed that, things got way better without all the extra stuff. it's crazy how much time we waste on the quick fixes.
