My accessible entrance breakthrough happened at a laundromat in Philly

Saturday the coin machine was broken, so I had to wait 20 minutes and actually watched how people navigated the narrow aisle with carts, walkers, and a kid in a stroller. It clicked that almost every barrier I fight at work comes down to width and timing, not effort. Has anyone else had an everyday space teach them more than any ADA training?

My buddy who uses a cane watched his grandma try to get through a CVS aisle while two employees stocked shelves on both sides, and she just gave up and left. He told me that stuck with him more than any safety seminar he ever sat through.

Retail workers have zero awareness of how much space they take up. That grandma thing is brutal because it's not like she couldn't physically get through, she just knew it wasn't worth the fight. The real lesson is that nobody designs for the moment when two people need to pass at once, that's the whole problem.
