My therapist told me to stop trying so hard at work accommodations and it backfired hard

My therapist said I was 'over-explaining' my needs to my boss at a small marketing firm in Austin. She said just ask once and let it go. So I did. I asked for an ergonomic chair and a quiet workspace. Boss said 'we'll look into it' and that was it. Nothing happened for 3 months. My back got worse, I had to quit. Should have pushed harder or looped in HR. Anyone else get bad advocacy advice from a pro who doesn't get disability?

Three months of waiting for that chair sounds brutal. I once asked for a sit-stand desk and got a cardboard box instead. My therapist probably makes me overthink things too, she means well but doesn't get the office politics. Maybe next time I'll just bring a lawn chair and see how that goes.

Honestly you should have followed up. Your therapist meant stop overexplaining, not stop advocating for yourself.
