Rant: got turned away from a clinic in Phoenix because my aide had to do the talking, and that broke my trust
Last month I showed up at a walk-in clinic on Camelback Road in Phoenix for a bad ear infection, and the front desk lady kept asking my aide questions instead of me, even after I said I could answer. When my aide tried to explain I have a speech disability, the lady said they could not do the visit without a legal guardian present, which is not even a real rule. I have since started calling ahead everywhere, asking point blank if they have a policy for patients who bring support people, because getting turned away when you already feel awful is a whole extra layer of garbage. Has anyone found a good way to push back on that in the moment, or do you just walk out and file a complaint after?
