My $12 spoke wrench beat my fancy truing stand method

I spent 6 months fighting a wobble in my rear wheel using a dial indicator and zip ties, all because I trusted the tool over my hands. Last Tuesday I finally grabbed a cheap Park Tool spoke wrench I had kicking around and just felt each nipple as I turned it, listening for the pings. Turns out my rim was fine, I just had two spokes way overtensioned from when I built the wheel after a crash in Boise. Now I only use the stand to catch gross hops and I do the fine tuning by feel alone. Anyone else find their best fix came from ditching the fancy gear?

Why do we spend hundreds on gadgets when our hands already know what they're feeling, right? Same thing happened to me with my front derailleur last summer, I had it perfectly adjusted by ear before my torque wrench even got close.
