Spent 3 hours chasing a phantom creak in my commuter bike last Thursday

I swear I thought my bottom bracket was toast (which would mean a whole new crankset, ugh). I took everything apart, cleaned it, greased it, put it back together. Still creaked like an old floorboard. Turned out it was just my seatpost clamp being a little loose. I must have checked that thing twice already but missed it somehow. The worst part is I even swapped pedals and checked the chainring bolts before I found it. Has anyone else spent way too long on a simple fix that was staring them right in the face?

lol the bike equivalent of looking for your phone while holding it. I had a creak that drove me nuts for a whole week and it was just a dry spoke where the nipples cross.

@sam_scott59 that spoke creak thing is evil, spent three days hunting mine until I found a loose spoke nipple.
