That rainy week in Portland broke my rear derailleur and my patience

Last month we got five straight days of rain and grit on the roads, and by Thursday my rear derailleur was making this awful clicking noise. I pulled it apart on my kitchen counter and found the jockey wheels had picked up so much sand and grime they were basically grinding stones. Replaced them with a $9 set from my local shop on SE Grand, plus a new cable and housing, and it shifts smoother than when I bought the bike. Anyone else find that wet weeks wreck your drivetrain way faster than any trail dust?
