The guy at the co-op told me to stop greasing my brake cables

Tbh I always thought greasing cables was just standard maintenance, but a mechanic at the bike co-op in Portland told me to stop doing it on brake lines. He said the grease attracts grit and makes the cable drag inside the housing, which I figured was nonsense. Then I swapped to a dry lube on the rear brake cable and the lever pull felt noticeably smoother after about a week of riding. Anyone else run dry lube on brake cables or is this guy just a weirdo?

My SRAM stuff runs way smoother with Tri-Flow dry, grease just turns to grinding paste.
