TIL the hard way about cheap brake pads after a nasty spill last Tuesday

I was cruising down that steep hill on Maple Street here in Portland around 6pm when my rear brake basically just gave out. Had replaced the pads two weeks ago with some generic $8 set from the bargain bin at Bike World. Ended up sliding through the intersection and nearly got clipped by a bus. Anyone else had luck with a specific mid-range pad that actually stops in wet conditions?

Yo did you at least get a refund for those death pads? That's a rough way to learn the $15 difference lol.

Did you ever find a better brand after that? I used to think all pads were pretty much the same but that experience would change my mind too.
