TIL the hard way that bike chain lube types actually matter a ton

I used the same can of WD-40 on my chain for like 3 years because hey it's lube right. Last month my chain started skipping on my ride through the park in Austin and I almost ate it. A buddy at the local co-op told me WD-40 is more of a degreaser not a real lube. Switched to a wet lube for my area's humidity and my shifting is BUTTER now. Has anyone else been using the wrong stuff for way too long without realizing?

Started a project car once and the first thing I tried was salvage yard parts that had been sitting for who knows how long. Got halfway through before realizing most of it was junk.
