Took apart my rear hub last Tuesday and found a whole mess
I was getting this weird clicking noise every time I coasted, not pedaling, just rolling. Pulled the cassette off and opened up the hub on my old Fuji, and there was this pile of broken pawl springs just sitting at the bottom. One of the pawls was even missing a chunk, no idea how it still worked at all. Ended up scavenging a spare spring from an old wheel I had in the shed, cleaned everything out, and slapped it back together. Anybody else ever had pawl springs just disintegrate on them like that?

Whoa that's rough. I had the same thing happen on an old hub a few years back, the springs were just dust basically. I ended up ordering a whole rebuild kit online and it fixed it right up, easier than fishing for random parts.

Heard a guy on a podcast say those rebuild kits are basically the same parts the manufacturers use, just way cheaper. Makes sense to go that route for sure.
