I totally changed my mind about growing weird colored corn after visiting a farm in Iowa
I used to think planting that rainbow glass gem corn was just for show and not worth the effort. But last weekend I stopped at this small farm near Decorah and saw their whole patch of it. The kernels were like little jewels, deep reds and blues and purples, and the farmer told me he sells it for $8 a pound at the local market. He also said it makes the best cornmeal he's ever had for pancakes. Now I'm ordering seeds for next spring and planning a 10x10 patch. Anyone else tried growing colored corn for actual eating?

it's funny how one little trip can completely flip your whole perspective on something. i feel like that happens a lot with stuff we think we already know about, like "fancy" vegetables or whatever. i did the same thing with heirloom tomatoes a few years back, thought they were just a gimmick until i tasted one that actually tasted like a tomato should. now i'm the weirdo at the farmer's market asking people if their purple potatoes are actually good or just pretty.
