Just hit 14 heads on one sunflower and I honestly dont know whether to be proud or scared
I planted one of those giant Russian mammoth seeds back in April and now it's got 14 flower heads growing off one stalk that I never cut or did anything special to. My neighbor Bill in Dayton keeps calling it a freak of nature and honestly I'm starting to agree, has anyone else had a sunflower go this nuts on them?
Russian mammoths are actually known for making one big head, not a bunch of smaller ones. When you get 14 heads off one stalk it's usually because the main growing tip got damaged somewhere along the way, maybe from a bug, a frost nip, or even just weird weather. The plant panics and sends out side shoots to try and make seeds another way. So Bill can relax, it's not a mutant, it's just your sunflower doing damage control.
