My zucchini grew a second stem that looked like a tiny arm, neighbors think I'm nuts
Last Tuesday I found a zucchini in my patch with a little nub sticking out the side, like it was waving at me. I left it on the vine for three more days and it stretched out into this weird finger shape, honestly kind of creepy but I loved it. Everyone says to pick the weird ones early and compost them, but I think the strange ones are the whole point of this hobby. I ended up putting it on my porch in a little pot as a conversation piece and two people asked if I was growing alien plants. Anyone else keep their mutant veggies around instead of eating them, or am I the only one who likes them ugly?

That crooked nub is called a fasciation and it happens when the growing tip gets confused, so you get two stems or that stretched finger look. Leaving it on the vine that long tells the plant to keep putting energy into that fruit instead of the others, so if the rest of your crop starts slowing down, that is why. Pick it once it stops changing shape, it is still fine to eat, just slice off the weird part. Sticking it in a pot on the porch is a solid move though, I have got a twisted carrot on my windowsill from last season that nobody will let me throw out.
