That time I saw a guy grow a tomato plant inside a bowling ball at the county fair

I was at the Iowa State Fair last summer and this older dude had a tomato plant growing right out of the finger holes of an old bowling ball. He said he drilled a hole in the bottom for drainage and filled it with soil, and the thick plastic kept the roots warm. Has anyone else tried growing stuff in weird containers like that?

Notices how people will grow anything anywhere if they think it'll save a few bucks on groceries.

Yeah I used to roll my eyes at people turning their whole yard into a vegetable patch, like just go to the store you know? But honestly after seeing how bad things have gotten with prices at the supermarket I get it now. It's not just about saving a few bucks either, it's about knowing exactly what went into your food and having control over something when everything else feels out of control. I've seen people grow tomatoes in buckets on their apartment balcony and honestly I'm kind of impressed by the creativity.
