That week I tried to grow a Two headed sunflower and it totally backfired

I spent all last spring babying these seeds, trying to get a mutant sunflower with two heads by pinching the stem at just the right time. I read about it on some weird gardening blog and got SO excited. For like 6 weeks, I watered it every single day and even talked to it like a crazy person. Then one morning I go out and find the whole thing snapped in half from a heavy rainstorm. 3 months of work just GONE because I didn't stake it properly. The worst part is my neighbor's normal sunflowers are like 8 feet tall and totally fine. Has anyone else had a cool project just completely fall apart at the last minute?

3 months of work just GONE" because you forgot a stake. That's the gardening equivalent of building a whole house and forgetting the front door. Mother Nature doesn't care about your cool blog experiments, she just brings the wind and rain.

...and that's exactly why I gave up on gardening and just started buying plants from the grocery store that are already dead so I can't be disappointed. Honestly though, I once tried to grow a bonsai tree from a seed I found online and after two years of trimming and wiring this little guy, my cat knocked it off the windowsill and it shattered into a million pieces. So I feel your pain, that's like a 6 month sunflower project versus a 2 year bonsai project and both ended with a crushed dream and some dirt on the floor. At least your neighbor's sunflowers are thriving, mine just look at my failures with judgment.
