TIL you can grow carrots in a PVC pipe tower to get straight ones in rocky soil
I used to just throw seeds in the ground and hope for the best, which always gave me twisted little mutants. This summer I built a 4 foot tall pipe setup filled with sand and compost, and every carrot came out perfectly straight - has anyone else tried vertical growing for root veggies?

Oh wow, that's genius! It's funny how we assume the ground is just fine for root veggies when really it's like trying to grow a straight line through a bowl of rocks. This reminds me of how so many things in life work better when you control the environment a bit. Like baking vs cooking, you know? Baking needs precise stuff but cooking you can just toss things in and hope. I bet the sand and compost mix is the key, keeping everything loose so the carrots don't hit a pebble and go all wonky.

Bet you feel real smart after typing that out, huh?
