Tried growing giant pumpkins in a kiddie pool versus a compost pile, and the pool won by 60 pounds
I planted two Atlantic Giant seeds back in April, one in an old plastic kiddie pool filled with potting mix and one straight into my compost heap, and by the end of September the pool one weighed 187 pounds while the compost one never got past 120, mostly because the pile kept drying out on top, so now I want to know if anyone has tried burying a soaker hose in theirs to keep it wet.
187 pounds is no joke, that kiddie pool is out here outgrowing your compost pile like it pays rent. Honestly the drying out thing makes sense since compost piles shed water off the top fast, so a soaker hose buried a few inches down should keep the roots happy while the surface still looks dry. Tbh just bury it in a loop around where you plant the seed and check the soil with your hand before watering, since compost holds way more moisture than potting mix once it actually gets wet.
