Used to buy plastic flamingos for the yard, now I carve my own weird birds from scrap wood
Ten years back my wife and I grabbed two pink plastic flamingos from a gift shop in Gatlinburg for $12 and stuck them by the mailbox like everybody else. When the sun faded them to a sad gray after two summers, I got annoyed and decided to test a different route. I pulled a chunk of scrap cedar out of the burn pile and hacked out a lopsided heron with a handsaw and a chisel. It looks like a pterodactyl that gave up halfway through, and the neighbors in Knoxville still slow down to stare at it. Now I carve a new weird bird every spring, and the yard has 9 of them out there. Anyone else quit the store bought lawn junk and started making their own creepy critters?
