Blew $47 on a heat gun for EVA foam armor and my $12 hair dryer did the same job
I kept seeing posts saying you need a heat gun to shape EVA foam for armor, so I grabbed one at Harbor Freight for $47 with the adjustable temp. I used it on my Buster Sword build for about 3 hours and honestly the cheap hair dryer I already had in the bathroom did just as well on the bevels and curves. The heat gun gets way too hot too fast and I scorched a $14 foam sheet on my second pass, so that was another loss on top. The people pushing heat guns never mention the scorch risk or that you need to keep it moving constantly or it bubbles. I ended up using the hair dryer for the rest of the build and the shapes held fine after sealing with Plasti Dip. Anyone else here shaping foam with something other than a heat gun, or am I the only one who thinks the heat gun thing is overblown?
