Bought a $70 heat gun to shape EVA foam for my Mandalorian helmet and it was the best money I've spent on this hobby
I was using a hair dryer for like two weeks on my first helmet build and the foam kept springing back before I could press it into shape. A guy at my local craft store in Sacramento said to just get a basic Wagner heat gun for around $70 and I almost didn't because it felt like a lot for one tool. Turns out you only need it on low, wave it over the foam for a few seconds, and it holds the curve perfectly while you press it against a bowl or whatever form you're using. My second helmet came out way cleaner than the first and I finished the whole thing in one weekend instead of dragging it out. Anyone else have a tool that seemed pricey but ended up being worth it for foam work?
That line about the foam springing back before you could press it hit close to home, I spent way too long fighting my hair dryer like it owed me money. Yours probably still works better than mine did, since mine mostly just made me sweat and question my choices.
