Heard some kid at a con say EVA foam is "old school" now

I was waiting in line at MomoCon and this teenager said EVA foam is for beginners and everyone uses 3D printed stuff now. Made me realize how much the hobby has shifted - I still hand carve my foam swords and they hold up fine, anyone else stick with the old methods?

Idk maybe it's just me but a kid at a con saying something like that doesn't mean the whole hobby shifted overnight. I still see tons of people selling foam stuff and winning awards with it at local shows. 3D printing is cool and all but half the time you see prints that look like they got dragged through gravel because nobody bothered to sand them. Foam has been around forever for a reason, it works, it's cheap, and you can fix mistakes with a heat gun instead of starting over.

Blame @thomas_brown for bringing logic into a hype train station, but yeah, some of those 3D prints look like they got chewed up and spat out by the printer itself.
