Hot glue on foam was my crutch until an armor panel fell off mid-con

I used hot glue for every foam seam for like 3 years because it was fast and I hate waiting for contact cement to dry. Then at Fan Expo in Toronto last fall, a shoulder pauldron literally dropped off my costume while I was walking through the dealer hall. Some kid pointed and said 'your armor is shedding,' and that was my wake up call. Contact cement takes 10 extra minutes per panel but the bond holds after a full day of wear, no re-gluing every hour. Has anyone else switched after a public failure or is my old method actually normal for some builds?
