Hot take: Worbla is overpriced and overrated for armor

I dropped $80 on a sheet of Worbla for my first set of Fallout armor and honestly it was a nightmare. It melted unevenly in my garage in Phoenix and I had to scrap half of it. Switched to EVA foam with a heat gun and got better results for like 12 bucks at Harbor Freight. Has anyone else had better luck with cheaper materials?

lol honestly that Phoenix heat sounds like a recipe for disaster with Worbla. But what you said about switching to foam kind of hits on something bigger I've noticed. People get sold on the "official" expensive material for hobbies and think it's the only way to get good results. Then they end up frustrated and out of cash. It's like how everyone used to think you needed a $200 name brand chef's knife to cook dinner. Meanwhile my buddy makes perfect cosplay props with foam floor mats from the hardware store. Sometimes the cheaper stuff just works better for what you're actually doing, not what the internet tells you to use.

You ever notice how the hobby industry is basically just marketing hype? It's wild. I've seen people drop hundreds on "professional" craft supplies only to quit because it was too complicated. Meanwhile I've made solid props with pink insulation foam from Home Depot. Cost me like $15. Thing is, expensive stuff makes you scared to mess up. Cheap material means you can experiment. You can screw up ten times and still be ahead money-wise. People need to stop acting like price equals quality. It's about what actually works with your hands.
