My buddy said weathering with real dirt is cheating, now I can't stop thinking about it
Last Friday my friend Dave came over to check out the Mandalorian helmet I just finished and he goes "using actual dirt from your yard on the paint is cheating, it's not real weathering if you didn't build it up with washes and dry brushing." I've always been on team real materials, I even used a rusted nail to make streaks on my chest plate, but he made a good point that the dirt can flake off over time and ruin a $60 paint job. So which side are you on, do you go find stuff outside to weather your pieces or do you keep it all in the workshop with paint and powders?
