Rant: my plastic visor shattered at Comicpalooza Houston and a vendor's hot glue tip saved my helmet build
Was walking the floor at Comicpalooza in Houston last May when my Mandalorian visor popped out and cracked on the concrete. A vendor at booth 412 watched it happen and told me to ditch the craft glue and use clear E6000 around the whole rim, then clamp it for 24 hours. I rebuilt the helmet that way and it survived 3 more cons and a drop off my workbench. Has anyone tried tinting their own visor with dye instead of buying the pre-tinted sheets? Curious if it holds up better.
Back in 2019 I tried dyeing a clear visor with RIT synthetic and it came out blotchy as hell. Left it in the hot dye bath for like 20 minutes at 180 degrees and the edges went way darker than the middle, looked like a bad spray tan. Ended up tossing it and just buying a pre-tinted one from a guy on Etsy for 18 bucks. The dye can work if you go slow and keep the water moving, but man it's a gamble on a curved piece. E6000 is the real hero of your story though, that stuff holds up way better than hot glue in the Texas heat.
