Rant: spent $40 on worbla before trying EVA foam for my Mandalorian helmet
So I finally started my Mandalorian build two months ago and had a real fork in the road. I could either drop about $40 on a sheet of worbla or grab a $12 pack of EVA foam mats from Harbor Freight. I went with the worbla because everyone on YouTube makes it look so easy and I figured spending more meant less work. Big mistake lol. That stuff is unforgiving as hell. Every little bump shows through the primer, and once it cools wrong you can't really fix it without reheating the whole piece. I burned through 3 sheets before I got one half decent chest plate. Meanwhile my buddy Marcus made the same plate from foam in one afternoon and it looks better than mine. I ended up switching to foam for the helmet and it went so much faster. Anyone else get suckered into the expensive material first? What do you use for smooth armor finishes, foam or something else?
That whole "spending more meant less work" thing gets everybody at least once. My buddy dropped like $60 on smooth-on stuff for his first gauntlet and it cured with bubbles everywhere, meanwhile I'm over here with my $12 foam mats and a heat gun like a caveman.
