That one disaster week with EVA foam and a hot glue gun
Last July I decided to make a full set of Mandalorian armor in 5 days for a con in Austin. Day 3 my hot glue gun clogged twice and I melted a whole pauldron because I left it in my car. The helmet turned out lopsided but somehow the judges at the contest still gave me a nod for effort. Has anyone else had a prop project just completely fall apart mid-build?

Honestly, "nod for effort" sounds like a win to me. I bet most people couldn't even get a helmet that far in five days, lopsided or not. Sometimes a finished project that looks rough is better than a perfect one that never gets made lol.

Man that Mandalorian armor story hits way too close to home. I tried making a foam Iron Man suit for Halloween a few years back and the whole chest piece warped overnight because I left it on a hot radiator. I had to literally duct tape it together the morning of the party and it looked like a sad cardboard box with LEDs glued on. The glue gun drama is real though - mine spit out this giant stringy blob right onto the kitchen counter and my girlfriend still brings it up. A lopsided helmet that you actually finished in five days is honestly impressive, most people give up way before that point. Did the judges give you any tips or was it just a silent nod and move on?
