The $14 foam clay that saved my shattered pauldron

Picked up some cheap foam clay at a hobby shop in Tulsa after my Worbla pauldron cracked during a con test fit. I was honestly skeptical, figured it would peel or crumble like the air dry stuff I tried before. Smoothed it over the break with a wet spatula, let it sit 6 hours, and now the thing flexes better than the original. Sanded it down last night and it took the texture paint like a champ. Has anyone else used foam clay for emergency repairs on armor, or am I the only one who slept on this stuff?
