The foam I used to use compared to today is night and day different
I dug out an old cosplay helmet I made back in 2014 from a box in my garage last weekend. The EVA foam I used back then was that cheap craft stuff from the dollar store, and it crumbled apart when I picked it up. Now we've got that high density foam from places like TNT Cosplay that holds detail way better and doesn't flake after a few years. The difference is just the materials got way better around 2017 or so when more people started doing prop making as a hobby. Has anyone else noticed their old builds falling apart faster than the newer ones you made with better foam?

The same thing happened to my old Deadpool mask from 2015! That cheap foam literally turned to dust when I tried to reshape the eye holes. I remember using hot glue and praying it would hold, but now the seams just popped apart. The new stuff from places like Cosplay Supps holds up so much better, I've got a Mandalorian helmet from 2019 that still looks brand new. It is wild how much the hobby changed once the materials caught up.

Your 2014 helmet literally crumbled? That's wild. I've got a few props from around 2013 or so and they're still solid, but I also used that weird green foam from a craft store that felt like a sponge. The way you described it just falling apart makes me think maybe the glue or sealant you used back then could have also contributed to the degradation over time, or maybe it was just the material itself breaking down.
