The one critique that fixed my worbla armor finishing

A cosplayer at Gen Con told me my armor looked 'frosted' and asked if I sanded between primer coats. I had been rushing and skipping that step for 2 years. Now I do 4 rounds of wet sanding with 400 grit between each coat and the finish is smooth as glass. Anyone else get a random comment that totally changed their process?

Wet sanding always seemed like overkill to me. Used to think primer was primer, just slap it on and move on. Then a friend pointed out mine had orange peel and I shrugged it off. Couple years later I finally tried wet sanding between coats on a helmet. Changed my whole outlook in one afternoon. It takes extra time but the finish holds paint way better and doesn't need constant touch ups. Now I'm the guy telling other cosplayers to slow down and do it right.

Wait, "orange peel" on a helmet? That's a thing that happens with primer? I honestly had no idea it could look like that. You're telling me you went years just slapping primer on and didn't notice until a friend pointed it out? That's wild to me because I would have just kept going forever thinking it was fine. I guess I'm glad I learned this now before I ruin my next prop.
