Used to cut EVA foam with a box cutter. Finally got a hot knife.

Back when I started making props in 2018, I was using a regular old box cutter for everything. Took forever to cut curves on my Mandalorian armor. Had to sand every edge for like 20 minutes. Bought a cheap hot knife off Amazon for 30 bucks last year. Now I can slice through 10mm foam like butter. Clean edges, no dust, way less hand cramps. Anyone else put off upgrading your tools for way too long?

Hot knife is a game changer for sure but 10mm foam is pushing it for a hot knife actually. Most cheap hot knives struggle with anything above 6mm without dragging or leaving gummy residue. You might want to try a foam cutter wire attachment if you're doing thick EVA like that. Otherwise you're gonna burn through blades way faster than you think. I learned that the hard way after ruining a whole helmet ear piece because the knife kept sticking.
