Warning: hot glue gun melted my helmet visor mid-con
Last weekend at Fan Expo, I was securing the edges of my new visor and the glue gun tip touched the PETG plastic for maybe two seconds. The whole front warped and bubbled in this ugly wave, looked like a melted soda bottle. I had to cut it out and rebuild the faceplate with a sheet of clear acrylic, cost me an extra $28 and four hours in the hotel room. Has anyone else had adhesives react badly with clear thermoplastics, or should I just stick to epoxy resin from now on?

Oh man, that sucks so bad. But just so you know, PETG and hot glue are a rough match. The glue gun tip gets way hotter than people think, around 350 degrees, and PETG softens at like 175. So even a quick tap can warp it, it's not really the adhesive itself but the heat from the gun. Epoxy's safer since it cures at room temp, but honestly for clear visors I've had better luck with 3M VHB tape or just small acrylic screws, keeps everything cool and you can redo it without melting anything.
