Wasted $60 on EVA foam that literally crumbled in my hands
I bought this cheap EVA foam pack off Amazon for my Mandalorian armor build back in July. It was like $60 for a bundle of 10 sheets, which seemed like a steal compared to the name brand stuff. First cut I made with my box cutter, the edge just disintegrated into this ugly powdery mess. I tried heat sealing with my heat gun, and the whole sheet bubbled up and got this weird texture like orange peel. After three tries I realized the foam density was way too low, maybe like 2mm or something useless. I threw the whole stack in the trash and ordered CosplayFoam brand instead, which actually worked perfect. Has anyone else fallen for those cheap multi-pack foams that look good in the listing photo but are basically trash?

And honestly I think part of the problem is these sellers are using recycled foam scraps from packaging or gym mats instead of actual craft foam... they just grind it up and press it into sheets so there's no structural integrity left. The density difference between real cosplay foam and that junk is night and day because the good stuff is made specifically for heat shaping and cutting. That $60 loss hurts but at least now you know to check the pounds per cubic foot before buying anything.

I grabbed a 50 pack off some random site for $45 back in May and it was the same garbage. The foam was so soft it tore just from me handling it before I even cut anything. I tried using a new blade and even sanding it down but it just made more of that nasty powder everywhere. The heat gun turned a test piece into a crinkled mess like old plastic wrap. I ended up tossing the whole thing after two days of frustration and went with the SKS Pro stuff which cost more but actually held shape. That cheap foam is a straight up scam and I feel your pain on wasting the cash.
