Wish I listened to the judge sooner about EVA foam bevels

After my third cosplay contest, a judge told me my armor looked 'puffy' because I was cutting all my bevels at 90 degrees instead of 45. I redid the pauldrons on my knight kit with a 45 degree bevel on every edge and the panels actually fit together flat. Has anyone else had a random critique that completely changed their build process, or was I just stubborn for two years?
