Almost fried my laptop on a $8 Amazon hub and I want you all to check yours
So last Tuesday I was sitting at my desk in the garage and I smelled something hot, like burning dust. I looked down and my USB hub, the cheap $8 one from Amazon, was so hot I could not hold it, and my laptop was charging through it at the same time. I yanked the cable right away and the plastic port had already started to warp, so I unplugged everything and let it sit outside for an hour. Turns out I had been running my mouse, keyboard, and charging cord all through one little hub that was only rated for data. Now I plug the charger straight into the wall and the hub only does peripherals. Has anyone else had a hub get scary hot like this, and what did you switch to?
