Blew $70 on a standing desk converter that wobbles so bad my coffee slides
So about 2 months ago I got it in my head that I needed to stand while I work, but I did not want to drop $500 on a whole new desk. I grabbed one of those sit stand converters that just sit on top of your existing desk, cost me $70 on sale. Big mistake. The thing wobbles every time I type, and I mean every single keystroke sends a shimmy through the whole tray. I put my coffee mug up there once and watched it slide about an inch toward the edge before I caught it. I tried tightening every bolt, I even wedged a folded towel under the base, nothing helped. So now it lives on the floor behind my desk and I am out $70 plus the hour I wasted putting it together. If you want to stand, just save up for a real desk frame or build one yourself from lumber. Has anyone found a cheap riser that actually stays still, or am I just stuck sitting until I can afford the real deal?
70 bucks and an hour of your life for something that now lives on the floor, that is a rough deal but let us keep some scale here. A mug sliding an inch is annoying, sure, but it is not the desk trying to kill you, and plenty of people type on wobbly trays for years without their coffee ending up on the carpet. Tighten what you can, keep the mug on the main desk instead of the tray, and save up for the real frame if it still bugs you.
