Broke my monitor arm mount last Tuesday and had to get creative

I was adjusting my dual monitor setup in my home office in Austin when the clamp snapped right off the desk. It was a cheap gas spring arm I got for 30 bucks on sale a few months ago. I ended up bolting a wooden shelf bracket to the wall and sitting the monitors on that for now. Has anyone else had a monitor arm fail on them mid-adjustment?

Ended up with an Ergotron arm after my cheap one gave out. That thing held my 27 inch for three years no problem. Solid metal construction, no plastic nonsense. Cost me around 140 but worth every penny for the peace of mind.

Would dropping 140 bucks really be better than just grabbing another 30 dollar arm and seeing how long it lasts? I've had cheap arms go years before anything broke.
