Hit 50 feet of cable under my desk and realized I had a problem

I was doing a full rebuild of my desk setup last weekend and decided to actually measure all the cables I had zip-tied together. Turns out I had 50 feet of random USB, HDMI, and power cables running from my PC to my monitors and peripherals. That number blew my mind because I thought I was being pretty good about cable management. But once I started pulling things apart, I found three cables that weren't even plugged into anything anymore - just taking up space. One was an old printer cable from like 2018 that I never removed. So I cut down to exactly what I needed, used some adhesive cable clips I got for $8 on Amazon, and now my desk looks way cleaner. Has anyone else found random dead cables hiding in their setup?

Replacing all my messy cables with a single retractable USB hub was a game changer for my setup. It cut down on the clutter and made it easy to swap devices without digging behind the desk. Have you tried consolidating any of your connections that way?

Oh man, I tried that once and it was a TOTAL disaster. The retractable part snapped on day three and now I have this sad little plastic snake dangling from my desk that won't go back in no matter how hard I yank. I guess my messy cables are just gonna stay messy unless I find a hub that's built like a tank instead of a cheap toy. Glad yours worked out though, you must be living the clean desk dream while I'm over here in cable chaos.

That retractable hub idea sounds cool in theory but I'm with you on the build quality thing. I tried a cheap one from a brand I can't even remember and the USB ports felt loose right out of the box. What actually worked for me was a simple powered USB hub that sits right on my desk. It's just a solid black brick with seven ports, no moving parts to break. I mounted it under my monitor stand with some velcro strips and now I just have one thick cable running to the PC instead of like five separate ones. For power cables I got a flat extension cord that I ran along the edge of the desk, hidden by a cable channel. The only thing still annoying me is my headset cable, which always seems to find its way into my coffee mug.
