My $40 gas pipe desk leg splurge turned into a major regret

Back around 2018 I thought I was being clever buying those black iron pipe legs for my desk build. Spent about 40 bucks on a set of four prefabricated ones from a local hardware shop in Portland. Thing is they looked cool for like a month but then started rusting where my wrists rested and now I got orange stains on everything. Anyone else fall for the industrial pipe trend and end up with a mess?

My local hardware store sold those pipe leg kits in three sizes and I bought the wrong one. Had to stack phone books under the short side for six months before I gave up and just used cinder blocks. Now my desk has this weird tilt that makes my coffee mug slide off if I look at it wrong. The rust is just a bonus feature I didn't ask for.

You ever think about just burning it and starting over? Sounds like that desk has been punishing you long enough.
