Pro tip: Stop mounting your monitor to cheap particle board desks
I was at an IKEA in Portland last month helping a friend pick out a desk, and we saw like 3 returned Linnmon tops with cracked edges from monitor arms. Those hollow cardboard honeycomb tops just can't handle the clamp pressure, especially if you tighten it even a little too much. Has anyone else had good luck reinforcing those with a metal plate underneath or do you just buy a solid wood top outright?

Man that sucks. I've seen those Linnmon tops crack under clamps more times than I can count.

@aaron_wilson17 I mean yeah it happens but most people just overtighten the clamp and blame the desk. A little common sense goes a long way with those hollow tops. Honestly if you're that worried about it just throw a piece of plywood under the desk and move on.
