Talking to my dad about his old wooden desk made me rethink my whole setup

I was showing him my new cable management trays and monitor arm last weekend and he just laughed and pointed at this beat-up oak desk he's had since the 80s. He said he never needed any of that fancy stuff because he just drilled a hole in the back and stuffed all the wires through it. Has anyone else gone back to a simpler setup after seeing how the old timers did it?

My grandpa had a desk like that from the 70s, but I gotta point something out. That drilled hole trick works great for like two wires and a lamp, but these days we have power bricks, monitor cables, ethernet, USB hubs, and all that crap. You try stuffing all that through one hole and it looks like a snake ate a bunch of rats back there. Plus, if you ever need to move your desk or swap a cable, good luck pulling that mess out and back through. The old way was simple because their setups were simple, not because they were smarter about cable management. Have you actually tried just drilling a hole and seeing how it looks with a modern desk full of gear?

Yeah but I saw a video where someone used a brush grommet instead, way cleaner look.
