Am I the only one who didn't know Hall Effect sticks don't drift because there's no physical contact at all?
I was reading a teardown writeup from a modder in Portland and he mentioned that regular joysticks use carbon pads that wear down, while Hall Effect ones use magnets and a sensor with zero touching parts. That hit me because I've replaced the sticks on my Xbox controller twice in 18 months, both times from drift, and each replacement kit ran me about $12 plus shipping. So I started looking into swapping in a Hall Effect module and now I'm stuck on whether it's worth the soldering work. The part itself is only like $8 but I've never desoldered anything this small and I don't want to cook the board. Has anyone here done the swap on a stock controller, and did you need a heat gun or did a regular iron work fine?
