Popped into a retro game shop in Austin and noticed their joystick swaps were all done with zero desoldering
The owner showed me how he just uses quick-connect terminals for arcade sticks, and it made me rethink why I've been struggling with a soldering iron on my own fightpad mods. Has anyone tried those pre-wired harnesses for console controllers, or is that too bulky for tight spaces?

That line about zero desoldering really caught my attention. My buddy tried the quick-connect approach on an old Street Fighter pad and said it saved him a ton of hassle with cramped wiring. He did mention the connectors took up a little extra room inside, but it worked fine once he tucked the wires just right.

Man it's funny how stuff like that translates everywhere in life. @marywells I'm the same way with cable management at my desk - shoving a little extra wire in just takes some patience and a good tuck. Same principle as fitting a jigsaw puzzle piece that's slightly too big, you just work it in from the right angle. The tradeoff is always worth it if you don't have to undo a bunch of old soldering work. That's the whole battle with retro game mods anyway, finding that sweet spot between quick and clean.
