Cutting butcher block for a kitchen island and worried about sealing the end grain

What's the best seal for end grain to stop moisture? I need practical advice, not theory.

That sealing end grain worry is all too familiar.

Actually @hayes.sandra, sometimes leaving it open gives better results in my experience. The whole sealing thing gets blown out of proportion.

It seems like a lot of fuss over something that often works out fine on its own. Maybe we worry too much about the perfect finish.
