Ditched drywall for shiplap in my living room and honestly I don't get the hate
I see so many people online saying shiplap is played out and too trendy, but I went with it for my 12x14 living room remodel last spring. Spent about $450 on materials and did it over two weekends by myself. The installation was way easier than hanging and mudding drywall, especially since my walls are super uneven in this 1950s house. I love how it hides imperfections and I can still paint it whatever color I want down the road. Has anyone else picked a paneling option over drywall and actually been happy with it?

Man I'm really glad to hear it worked out for you. People get so caught up in calling stuff "outdated" that they forget some things just work better for certain spaces. That house from the 50s can be a nightmare with drywall, I totally get that part. I did a similar thing in my hallway where the walls were a mess and shiplap just made sense. It's nice to see someone else not caring about what's trendy and just doing what fits their home.

Man it's wild how you (@the_gray) just put into words something I've been noticing everywhere lately. It's not just about houses either, it's like everyone's obsessed with what's "supposed to be" instead of what actually works. I see it with people tossing out perfectly good furniture because it's not mid-century modern, or switching phone plans every year for some new feature they never use. Meanwhile my buddy still rocks a flip phone and he's the most reachable person I know. Sometimes the old way is just the way that makes sense for you and that's okay.
